I hate Microsoft Internet Explorer or it could just be the heat (NAW!)
Posted: 11:08AM Tagged: Life, Site News, WorkIt’s been awhile. I haven’t really felt like updating in awhile. Guess I’m just lazy when I’m not doing anything. I had Wednesday afternoon through the weekend off from the high school, and didn’t do anything constructive. I spent some time putting the finishing touches on my VHS site as well as work a little on the CGC site. There’s a lot of work left to do there. I think the colors are pretty much set. I like the dusty blue and dark grey. They go well with the lighter grey. The layout has a long way to go as does the site as a whole. If we get all of the ideas floating around in order and actually code them, the page is gonna rock.
Now let’s get into something a bit more geeky. I HATE MSIE. It’s slow, non-compliant, and a bitch to code for. I can be doing the smoothest design (using Mozilla Firebird to test and preview) and IE breaks it. Then you have to go hunt for some hack or workaround on Google. It just sucks! If Microsoft would realize where web design is headed, they’d be much better off. Until then, they’re on my web designer shit list.
How could I ignore today’s heat. If you’re reading this and you live in northern MN right now, you know what I’m talking about. It’s after 11 at night and it’s still 80° out. Now if you’re from some southern state or someplace where it regularly gets that hot, you’re probably thinking "oh what a pussy." Let me tell you something. You don’t have 15,000 lakes generating 90% humidity. When it gets this hot in MN, it’s downright unbearable. To make it even worse, most of us around here don’t have airconditioning. Again, those accustomed to the heat would say "cheap bastards won’t buy an air conditioner." And again I retort. Why? It gets like this maybe 10 days all summer. No real sense in investing in something you use that little.
Shifting gears, here’s a quick weekend rundown. Friday: got drunk playing cards with John, Brandon, and Justin. Then walked around town til 3AM. Saturday: Andy was in town, got drunk at the bar, once again walked around town in the wee hours of the morning. Sunday: worked on VHS site a little, found some new CD’s online. That’s it, you get no more detail than that.
Today was a big chapter in the eMac saga. They were in and we got to set them up. Let’s just say after unpacking 25 computers in a 90+ degree room, we were a little hot. Well, actually before we even started unpacking, we found the power boxes lying on the floor in front of the tables. So much for testing out all the computers. On to other problems. We were able to plug in a couple computers that were close to outlets. They booted up fine. Since the school runs OS 9, we switched them over to 9. Guess what! The Airport Extreme card isn’t being recognized. Sure enough, we come to find out you can only use it in OS X. Looks like TJ will be learning some OS X admining. I honestly think the reason she’s trying to hold on to 9 is because she doesn’t feel like learning a new administration system. I can’t say I really blame her either. She’s got a lot to do. But maybe a few of the 4 day weekends we took could’ve been put to better use. But as I’ve said, what’s done is done, and I’m not blaming anyone. To make a long story short, we finished the afternoon trying to configure the Airport Extreme base station. Try being the key word there. After a bunch of software updates, we didn’t have much time to mess with it and ended up putting it off until tomorrow.
Attention! Rant mode has been engaged. Now don’t go read this and say I didn’t give fair warning. So, my sister had her grad pictures today. Well, not even all of them, just the indoor and sibling ones. Now first of all, I really didn’t want to be in the pictures, but I did it anyway because it made my sister and mom happy. In true women style, they had to match my shirt to my sisters’ shirts and our jeans had to be the same lightness. That kind of stuff pisses me off because it’s usually minor detail stuff. My mom had a big problem because my pants had “frayed bottom edges.” She was about to go out and buy new pants. Now, I can understand where she’s coming from to a point. These pictures are supposed to be a little classy. Don’t want to look cheap and poor. But on the other hand, the frays were only visible in the back, that’s how I wear my pants, and when it came down the picture, they weren’t even in the frame. A lot of wasted time for nothing. My next big problem is with grad pictures as a whole. What’s the point? Why do you need professional pictures at high school graduation? Why even get them at all. The answer is probably because of socital pressure. People expect you to get grad pictures. And not only that, they expect you to spend a shitload on them. Lot’s of poses, lot’s of outfits. Looking back on mine, (Yes, I unfortunately conformed) they weren’t all that great. I had to shave my goatie because my mom told me to, which I didn’t want to do. I had to wear clothes I didn’t like wearing. It wasn’t a true representation of what I was then. Someone who looks at the pictures without knowing me is probably gonna think I was this preppy bastard. Which I’m not nor was I then. I’d rather have a crappy picture of me that is an accurate portrayal of who I am than some fake ass bullshit people want to believe I am. To those who haven’t gotten grad pictures yet, think about them. Is it really worth the time, money, and effort?
Whew, today was a long one. I guess that’s what you get for not updating for 4 days. Congratulations if you made it this far. Go get yourself a beer (preferably a good one, not an icky cheap one).
